PAINLESS ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

India’s leading and most trusted Dental Clinic

Root canal treatment is a treatment sequence for the infected pulp of a tooth which is intended to result in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion.

It is designed to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal, prevent reinfection of the tooth and save the natural tooth. During a RCT treatment procedure, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, then filled with a rubber like material and sealed. Sometimes crowns/caps are also placed.

Many people worry that a root canal will be painful, something that was true in the past but not anymore! Today, with advanced digital technology and anesthesia – a root canal is painless and comfortable procedure.

A root canal treated tooth can last a lifetime with proper care. Root canals have a high success rate and are undoubtedly less expensive than tooth extraction and replacement with a bridge or implant.

Nevertheless, tooth decay can still occur in RC treated teeth. To prevent further problems, good oral hygiene and regular dental exams are necessary.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ?

Root Canal Treatment is a procedure to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth instead of removing it. The term “Root Canal” comes from cleaning of the canal inside the tooth’s root so that you are relieved of the severe pain. The procedure involves removing the damaged/infected area of the tooth, known as the “pulp” which consists of nerves and blood vessels, cleaning and disinfecting it, then filling and sealing it by an artificial inert “filling material”.

The first step in the procedure is to take an X-ray to see the shape of the root canals and determine of there are any signs of infection in the surrounding bone. Your Endodontist will then use Local Anaesthesia to numb the area near the tooth making you more relaxed and comfortable. An access hole will then be drilled into the tooth. The pulp along with the bacteria, the decayed nerve tissue and related debris is removed from the tooth with the help of Root Canal Files. Different irrigating solutions are then used to flush out the debris. Once the tooth is thoroughly cleaned, it is sealed after filling the cleaned root canals with a rubber-like material, using an adhesive cement to seal the canals completely. After the Root Canal is completed, the tooth will likely need a crown to protect it from fracturing in the future.

When a person is told that he/she needs a Root Canal treatment (RCT), the person ususally thinks of pain. However, the pain felt is caused by an infection in the tooth and is not caused by the Root canal treatment. RCT infact is done to eliminate the pain and the procedure itself is painless. Moreover, our specialised Endodontists administer local anaesthesia after applying topical anaesthesia with utmost care to reduce patient’s anxiety and provide pain-free RCT. We use most modern equipment to ensure you enjoy a comfortable treatment.

If you as a patient have been given a choice, it is always better to retain your natural teeth by a Root Canal treatment, the simple reason being that there is no point replacing your natural teeth by artificial ones.
Root canal treatment holds several advantages over tooth extraction, cost being one of them. While the upfront cost of RCT is higher, tooth extractions often lead to long term costs. When you get a tooth extraction done, the gap formed by the lost tooth will typically be required to be replaced by a dental bridge, implant or a partial denture (all of which are more expensive than RCT). Also, apart from aesthetics, a gap in your mouth creates an imbalance which can lead various problems like difficulty in chewing and biting.
RCT is virtually painless due to modern techniques and anaesthesia. Compared to tooth extraction which generally causes more pain, RCT is easy and time saving. It has a success rate with results that last a life time. With minimum time and discomfort, the tooth can be saved; and no bridge, denture or implant will ever feel exactly like your natural tooth.

Keep your teeth free of decay by brushing and flossing each day. Follow healthy diet, low in sugar and stay away from strong acidic drinks. Visit your dentist regularly for checkups and minor decay-preventive/corrective procedures. In case you’re playing sport games, consider requesting a specially designed mouthguard to shield your teeth from damage.
